DAR ES SALAAM: IN a bid to support the government’s efforts in transforming the country into becoming a medical tourism hub in Sub Saharan Africa, Global Education Link ltd (GEL) has opened the door to provide opportunities for students to study abroad in the health sector, especially in specialist and super specialist areas.
According to Managing Director for Global Education Link, Mr Abdulmalik Mollel, the developments come after the huge investment done by the government in health facilities, including hospital infrastructure and modern equipment in various areas across the country.
He said that Tanzania is now among the countries in Sub Saharan Africa, which provide quality health services, attracting patients from outside the country, adding it is high time for the country to strengthen the availability of specialists and super-specialists.
Dr Mollel said this in Dar es Salaam on Friday, during the the climax of customer service week.
In particular, he said the current mission of the (GEL) is to open more opportunities for the students who pursue Masters and PhD programmes particularly in health sectors.
“This climax of customer service week for us is the beginning of preparing the next peak in customer service.
“In our assessment 90 per cent of students who pursue their studies abroad as undergraduates…only 10 per cent of students are taking Master’s and PHD progammes, we see this as a challenge,” he said.
He further noted that the developed countries like China, Turkey and Europe use specialists and superspecialists to attract the world to get medical services in their country, while stressing that the current mission of GEL is to explore the opportunities for scholarships.
