Matinyi Pledges to Deliver With Vigour

DODOMA: THE Director of Information Services, MAELEZO and Chief Government Spokesperson, Mobhare Matinyi has pledged to brand Tanzania in the eyes of the international community by ensuring that every information on what is being done by the government is provided timely and accurately.

He also said that he will ensure the network for government communications officers is cooperating with the media by providing information any time when needs arise.

“There are some instances where the heads of public institutions, ministries and departments will be required to provide information to the media and sometimes communication officers will have to speak for their entities,” he noted.

Mr Matinyi was speaking to journalists for the first time since he was appointed to the position by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to replace Mr Gerson Msigwa, who was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Arts and Sports.

Yesterday, Mr Msigwa handed over his former office to Mr Matinyi at an event that was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology.

Immediately after the handing over event, the duo addressed journalists, where Mr Msigwa paid tribute to President Samia for appointing him to the new position, promising to deliver with vigour.

He also thanked the media fraternity for the collaboration they accorded him when he was the government’s Chief Spokesperson.

He further thanked MAELEZO staff for their hardwork for the entire period when he was in office.

The media fraternity has welcomed the appointment of Mr Mobhare Matinyi as the new Director of Information Services, MAELEZO and Chief Government Spokesperson, with many expressing optimism that his experience in the media industry will continue to transform the sector.

Reacting to the appointment on Monday, they wished him well and pledged to cooperate with him in carrying out his duties for improvement of links between the media and the government.

However, they urged him to concentrate on improving the sector by addressing challenges facing it.

Last Sunday, President Samia Suluhu Hassan appointed Mr Matinyi to the position. Prior to the latest appointment, Mr Matinyi was the Temeke District Commissioner in Dar es Salaam.
